Subject Line: Why Julie & Julia are Important
Hi (First Name),
Last night I took some time out and finally watched Nora Ephron’s Julie & Julia.
Really a treat.
It’s a story of two women and their love for food (always one of my favorite topics!)
On the one hand, it tells the story of Julia Child who went to Paris with her husband (who worked for the Foreign Service) in 1948 and decided to fill her days by learning how to cook.
The rest is history… Child decided to share her enthusiasm for French food with the American public, became a prolific cookbook author and even pioneered the ‘chef’ TV show.
The second story is the tale of the less-known Julie Powell, a frustrated Ivy League graduate who was going nowhere in her career. She decided to celebrate her 30th birthday by cooking her way through Julia Child’s 734-page Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
1 recipe for each day of the year.
She wrote about her culinary journey in her blog and eventually published a book called Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen.
Two women who never met each other.
Two different journeys
But the glue that holds these two stories together are the recipes.
It made me start thinking about recipes.
We always think of recipes as pertaining to food but recipes are much more.
A recipe is defined as a ‘formula or procedure for doing or attaining something’.
A recipe is a set of instructions. A SYSTEM.
We use these systems or processes in everything we do.
From how we manage our house—to how we manage our business.
Recipes really do make the world go round.
That’s precisely why, when it came to sharing my expertise on (Your Area of Expertise) I decided the easiest way would be to create a step-by-step, super simple recipe for you.
